Many presenters during the Summit referred to IPS as being foundational for operating peer respites and Soteria Houses, as well as for improving relationships with family, friends, and others. Taking the full IPS training can be life-changing. We are pleased to offer this overview where everyone can be introduced to IPS and learn its principles. Intentional Peer Support is a way of thinking about and inviting transformative relationships. It provides a powerful framework for creating relationships where people learn and grow together. IPS is used across the world in community, peer support, and human services settings, and is a tool for community development with broad appeal to people from all walks of life.
Why IPS? Peers come together around shared experiences and often a desire to change lives. But without a new framework to build upon, people frequently re-enact “help” based on what was done to them. IPS offers a foundation for doing something different. We come from a history of grassroots alternatives that focus on building relationships that are mutual, explorative, and conscious of power.
In this three-hour online overview, participants will learn about the history of IPS as well as the tasks and principles of this transformational framework. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and have interactive discussions with the facilitators and other participants.

Peer Respite Summit
In de zomer van 2021 legden personen met ervaring met psychose, familieleden en professionelen uit verschillende landen van de wereld via online meetings contact met elkaar om te brainstormen over alternatieve vormen van opvang voor mensen in crisis zoals een Peer Respite ( Respijthuis ) en Soteriahouse ( een Soteriahuis.)
Ook de werkgroep Soteriahuizen Vlaanderen was in deze meetings vertegenwoordigd.
Deze vruchtbare internationale samenwerking mondde uit in het organiseren van de Internationale Peer Respite – Soteria summit.
Dit gebeurde volledig in de geest van Open Dialogue.
Met veel respect voor wat ieder uit ervaring met een of andere vorm van alternatieve opvang leefde of beleeft. Om het op deze wijze dicht bij de werkelijkheid en het haalbare te houden. Waarin kracht en kwetsbaarheid hand in hand gaan.
Het programma, verdeeld over de vijf zondagen van oktober, bestond essentieel uit spontane conversaties rond alle facetten die raken aan het creëren, in stand houden en ontwikkelen van een Peer Respite en een Soteriahuis.
De wijze van opstarten, de structuur, de principes, de attitude, erkenning en implementatie in de omgeving en de bewoners samen met de staf.
De dialogen werden doorspekt met levende getuigenissen en vooral van veel leerervaringen.

Ondertussen werd begin december een post-summit seminar georganiseerd dat je op dezelfde link als hiervoor kan bekijken.
Het is de bedoeling dat er regelmatig follow up seminars worden georganiseerd die de aangesneden materie verder verdiepen.
De kerngroep heeft zich ondertussen ook verdiept in de mogelijkheden om aan een nieuwe Summit te werken.
